Our rescued dachshunds come mainly from shelters and people hoping to give their dogs a great new start! In Utah, there are both kill, and no-kill shelters out there and we try to get every dachshund we can out of those situations. People have many reasons for giving their beloved dachshund friends to the the Dachshund Rescue of Utah (DRUT), for example:
- Human may be too ill to care for them
- Human may have passed away
- Home/Condo/Apartment may not allow pets
- Senior dachshund
- Dachshund may have health issues that are too expensive
- More about why dachshunds are surrendered to DRUT
Sometimes dachshunds are removed from situations involving neglect or abuse and we do our best to get them back on their paws again! This said, there are rescued dachshunds currently placed with DRUT fosters that are not yet ready to be adopted. Some of the dogs we receive have a long road ahead of them, to finding their good health. They visit the vet not just for a wellness check up, but sometimes they have to go back multiple times.
Our dachshunds come from so many different backgrounds. Due to both physical and emotional issues they need time to heal and blossom into their comfort zones.
